A password-protected directory is a folder that can't be accessed unless the right login details are provided. This may be an entire Internet site or simply a single page that is located in a subfolder. If you try to open this type of a directory, you will see a web browser pop-up in which you will have to type a username and a password. In case you enter the correct ones, you can continue surfing around the content with no need to do anything additional. When the login details aren't correct, however, you will see a note that you are not authorized to look at the content. When this function is active, you will not be able to open a file even when you have a direct link. The feature is quite handy if you wish to restrict the access to some content or if you are developing an Internet site and you do not want visitors to be able to access it before it's ready.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area shall take merely a few clicks and a few seconds if you host your sites in a cloud hosting
account with us. You shall not have to do anything difficult - you'll need to choose a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it has to be protected, and then to input the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. When a number of people need their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to create several different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you will always know where this feature is active. If you'd like to disable the protection function for any folder, you can deactivate it from the exact same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server
account with us, you'll be able to shield any content you have uploaded using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it is a part of, so you shall not have to input any code at any time. You will simply have to choose one of the domains/subdomains you have in the website hosting account and to select which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can input the username and the password, that will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be ready. The protection shall be activated straightaway, so anybody who attempts to access the recently secured folder shall have to type in the right login info. When several people have to be able to open the same content, you could set up a separate username for each one.
